Ricky Sinclair: Christmas Presence – Simplicity in the Midst of Excess

Christmas Presence

Simplicity (Christmas) in the Midst of Excess

I. Food, shopping, wrapping, presents, dysfunction, family, busyness, comparison, consumers, contentment.

A. Write down 5 things you can’t live without.

II. Why is Christmas so amazing?

A. Think about it!!! The whole world’s time is marked by Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. “B.C.” stands for “before Christ,” but “A.D.” anno domini (“in the year of the Lord” – the year Jesus was born).

B. The sign to King Ahaz and to us. God’s purpose will come to pass.

(Isaiah 7:10-14, Matthew 1:19-23)

III. Amazingly God became human: Child – Son – God. (Isaiah 9:6)

A. Jesus had to become a human to die to pay our sin debt.

(1 Peter 1:18-20,23)

“18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

(1 Peter 1:18-20,23)

B. Jesus had to become human to break the power of sin and death over us. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

C. Jesus had to become human to experience what we experience.

(Hebrews 2:17-18)

IV. I heard a story of a judge that fixed a ticket for his friend.

A. Jesus asked who do men say that I am? Your eternal destiny depends on your answer.

(Matthew 16:13-19)

(LOL story)

B. We must believe that Jesus became human to save us.

(1 John 4:1-4)

C. The story of Adam and Eve.

D. God did not send a Messenger or give you something to do to be saved. He sent Himself to redeem you.

V. Will you believe in the most amazing gift the world has ever seen, Jesus Christ? Let’s pray.
