Ricky Sinclair: Secrets to Answered Prayer

Secrets to Answered Prayer

I. If prayer is the most important thing we can do in our daily schedules, why is it sometimes the least we do?

1. Through prayer God gives us direction, understanding and discernment.

2. Through prayer God opens doors sending His angels to go before us.

(Exodus 33:1-2)

“1  And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

2  And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:”  (Exodus 33:1-2)

3. Through prayer and intimacy with God, Moses knew the thoughts and heart of God.   (Exodus 33:13-17)

“13  Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

14  And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

15  And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

16  For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

17  And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.”  (Exodus 33:13-17)

II. The secret cure for unbelief – Prayer and Fasting.

1. The disciples asked Jesus why they could not heal a lunatic boy? (Matthew 17:14-21)

“14  And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15  Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16  And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17  Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18  And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19  Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21   Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”  (Matthew 17:14-21)

2. Faith needs prayer to come to pass.

3. Prayer sometimes needs fasting to come to pass.

III. The secret place of God:

1. Jesus said, when you give, pray and fast do it in the secret place and God Himself will reward you. (Matthew 6:1-6, 17-18)

“1   Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2   Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3   But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4   That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

“17   But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18   That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.”

(Matthew 6:1-6; 17-18)
